City Of Superior Puts Focus On Recreational Projects

Recreation will factor big in the planning and spending for the City of Superior in 2020 - on two fronts. The good news is that even with reduced funds available, a series of partnerships will bring total recreational improvements to around $1 million this year.

Already, the city has made strides in allocations towards recreational improvements.  $300,000 is pledged towards a punch list of projects that include:

• Board repairs for a skating rink
• Upgrades in electric and garbage and recycling at Barkers Island Festival Park
• Added facilities at Hammond Park
• Relocation of tennis and basketball courts at Central Park
• Upgrading to 18-holes at the Disc Golf Course in the Municipal Forest

According to a story in the Superior Telegram, the city has also set aside additional funds in case they obtain a federal grant to cover upgrades to the Pokegema Landing.  If that grant is obtained, the city will match up to $57,000 in funds.  Additionally, the city also hopes to utilize Community Development Block Grants totaling $500,000  to make improvements to Bear Creek and Kelly Parks.

Meanwhile, Superior's Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan is on the agenda for the next City Council meeting - happening Tuesday, February 4.  A vote will be taken to consider adoption of the plan.
