2021 Duluth Lion’s Club Pancake Day Has Been Cancelled
For the second year in a row, the 2021 Duluth's Lion's Club Pancake Day is being cancelled due to COVID-19 cases in the Northland. The good news is, there is another date set for the event in 2022.
According to our media partners at WDIO-TV, the all you can eat pancake day fundraiser, which is usually scheduled for the first week in May at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, was supposed to happen on Thursday, September 30th.
The hope was that holding it later in the year would allow the pandemic to settle down, but with the Delta Variant leading a rise in cases across the region, the pancake day committee made the tough decision to cancel the 2021 date. This was especially difficult since the DECC was available and plans had already been set in motion to make it happen this year, including tickets being sold to the event.
This is unfortunate for both the Lion's Club and the community. According to organizers, the event serves an average of 10,000 people in a single day and the money raised goes towards several area charities, non-profits and children's organizations. That money will not be available this year, which is a shame.
If there's a silver lining to be found through all this, it's that there is hope that the event can be held during its normal time next year. In fact, the 63rd annual Duluth Lion's Club Pancake Day is already scheduled to be held on May 5th of 2022.
Let's all cross our fingers that date sticks and we can all once again load up on pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee at that time!
