Andrew Loog Oldham, the Stones' manager, helped the Rolling Stones sign with Decca Records, who had turned down the Beatles the year before. They did not want to make the same mistake twice. They released their debut single, a cover of Chuck Berry's "Come On."  Later they released a version of Lennon-McCartney's "I Wanna Be Your Man" that soared into the Top 15 and in 1964, they released a cover of Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away," which shot to number three and became their first American hit. By that time, the Stones were notorious in America because fans thought them considerably rougher and sexier than the Beatles, and that's how their image was formed. It continues to this day.
