Orange cone season is here and the Northland is on tap for multiple road projects this summer.  As they gear up for the work ahead, officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are urging drivers to slow down and be alert in work zones.

When does the Bong Bridge open again?  A two-week bridge inspection is planned for the Blatnik Bridge's Superior-bound lanes - November 2 through November 10.  Traffic heading towards Superior from Duluth will be restricted to one single lane during daytime hours:  8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

The two-year project to revamp the Bong Bridge between Duluth and Superior is mid-way through its second summer.  As drivers look forward to the November completion date, this is a good time to get an update on  the work as it progresses.

Bad news for those who have been taking the detour around the work on Wisconsin Highway 35 south of Superior:  Better get used to that altered route until after Labor Day.

Be on the lookout for new speed limit signs on some of Wisconsin's highways.  Governor Scott Walker signed a bill into law that allows the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to raise the speed limit on certain highways in the state.

Year Number Two of the work on the Bong Bridge commences Monday, April 13 as the eastbound or Superior-bound lanes close to traffic until November 2015.  When it's finished, the work will represent a total rebuild of the deck - something that has never occurred since the bridge first opened to traffic in 1984.  It will also see the new roundabout as a fully-functioning intersection.

The City of Superior has been proactive in battling the Emerald Ash Borer that has affected Ash trees across the region.  During the past year, the city has been systematically removing Ash trees - whether they have been infected or not - from city-owned property and rights of way.  That process is set to occur near the Blatnik Bridge on Friday, March 6.

The holiday travel season is upon us and officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation urge drivers to use caution and be safe on the roadways.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has rescheduled a temporary bridge closure. The closure, from eastbound Highway 23 to northbound I-35 in Duluth, is rescheduled for Monday, September 15 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Traffic will be detoured during the closure.

Drivers in the Twin Ports will get to experience a round-about traffic intersection first hand when the Bong Bridge reopens this November - as it takes a winter-hiatus during its two-year refurbishment project.

Drivers who use the Blatnik Bridge will want to know about a ramp closure scheduled for Wednesday, September 11.
