Drivers who use Highway 23 in Carlton County will need to find an alternate route until this fall.

Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting motorists that the highway closure will last until mid-September as crews work on a new bridge and approaches at the Nemadji River.   The completed project will provide motorists with a smoother, wider and safer bridge surface and improved drainage.

The official detour for the project has  southbound traffic (near Pleasant Valley) using County Road 1, County Road 6, County Road 11 and County Road 10. Northbound traffic (near Duquette) will follow the southbound detour route in reverse.
