UPDATE 12:59 10/18/19

Our news partners at WDIO report one person has been arrested and other person is in the hospital following a shooting this morning that led to the lockdown of the nearby Fond du Lac Ojibwe School and the Fond du Lac Tribal Offices.

They report that the incident happened at the Fond du Lac Community Center gym at 9:46 Friday morning. The victim was in attendance at a funeral at the facility when he was shot in the head. The victim's condition is not known at the time of this update, but he has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Police don't believe this was a random act. Police continue to investigate.

KBJR 6 reports that other people in attendance at the funeral held the suspect until police arrived at the scene. Authorities believe the suspect and victim know each other, and neither are reportedly members of the Fond du Lac Tribe, but the suspect has ties to the reservation.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that the lockdown at the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School and Fond du Lac Tribal Offices has been lifted, with Cloquet Police Interim Chief Derek Randall reporting the victim is receiving treatment in Duluth. The DNT reports that buses were seen leaving the school with kids at 12:30 pm.

UPDATE: 11:08 am 10/18/19

The Duluth News Tribune is reporting that Fond du Lac Tribal Offices, the Fond du Lac Tribal Center, and the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School are on lockdown following a shooting nearby the location of these facilities. Individuals in these buildings are sheltering in place

The DNT reports that police responded to a shooting shortly after 10 am on Friday morning. It is unclear at this time if anyone was injured or if there have been any arrests as of this time.

A spokesperson for the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa told the DNT just after 11 am that authorities are still working to "secure the community and apprehend a suspect involved in a shooting".

A portion of University Road is closed as police remain on the scene.

Our news partners at WDIO are reporting that the Fond Du Lac Ojibwe School In Cloquet is on lockdown this morning. Police are reportedly calling this an "active scene", and are telling the public to stay away from the area.

A number of different law enforcement agencies are on the scene, responding to the situation.

While many of Minnesota's schools are not in session today for MEA, WDIO reports that the Fond Du Lac Ojibwe School's calendar shows today as a normal school day. The Fond Du Lac Ojibwe School is a K-12 facility just west of Cloquet.

There are few details available at this time, but we will update this story as more information becomes available.
