Popular Duluth News Anchor Announces Contract Extension
The Twin Ports area is lucky to have such great TV news, and one of the area's most popular news anchors has announced that he will be staying put for now.
With plenty of competition between WDIO, KBJR, CBS3, and FOX 21 for viewers, and much of the same news being covered between them, it comes down to the talent of the reporters, and most importantly the anchors.
That's why it's big news that FOX 21 anchor Dan Hanger announced that after 12 years with the station, he just recently signed a 3-year contract extension to anchor the 5:30 PM and 9 PM newscasts.
Dan admits that after such a long time with the same station, he was exploring options for a "new challenge", but in the end, he says he's " looking forward to helping build the station into its next chapter, especially as Forum Communications works through purchasing FOX 21, which can only mean changes for the better with more newscasts, resources, and upgraded facilities."
Hanger thanks his boss Steve Goodspeed, who was a longtime news director at WDIO, and the rest of FOX 21 management to reach an agreement on a contract extension.
For now, Hanger is filling in as anchor for the FOX 21 morning newscast as they look to find a new host, Dan says he's looking forward to getting back to his normal schedule and " the adrenaline rush of building a newscast from scratch during the day and delivering it at night."
I've always enjoyed watching Dan, he's not the average stuffy, little personality news anchor, and that's not an insult against other anchors, it's just Dan's delivery and personality that make him a unique talent in the market, and I for one happy he's sticking around.
Plus, Dan is a good friend of the station and he often enjoys coming in and filling in with the morning show from time to time when Jeanne or Ian is on vacation. And he provides some great bloopers from time to time as seen in this clip from 2021.
