Americans will get together this year to share stories, football, and eat a feast of food. Thanksgiving is the biggest waste of food day of any other day in America. We waste $282 million of uneaten turkey every year, and the problem is getting worse.

It's not just Turkey, Americans are wasting $165 billion in food waste. The tradition is to be thankful and share. This year look for ways to save the food.

Start planning how you are going to store the turkey and other food, remove leftover meat and store in smaller plastic bags that will chill quickly in the refrigerator, or toss in the freezer. Most of the food goes bad, some isn't stored correctly.

Discard any turkey, stuffing and gravy left out at room temperature longer than 2 hours because they can cause illness, the USDA said.
