The Lake Superior Zoo announced plans to open a red panda exhibit at Lake Superior Zoo next year, but they need the communities help to make it happen. Your donation will help the zoo be able to build a world-class natural habitat for this adorable endangered species.

It’s estimated that the red panda population has declined by over 40% in the last twenty years. Facing threats like habitat loss and poaching, their number will continue to drop. That is why Lake Superior Zoo wants to do its part to help by participating in breeding programs like the Species Survival Plan.

95 % of a red panda's diet is bamboo and it can cost up to $500 a month to feed one red panda. The zoo is hoping that they will be able to grow their own bamboo at some point. But in the meantime, they will have to purchase it from a supplier.

In the wild red pandas are found in the Eastern Himalayas, they are slightly bigger than a domestic cat with a thick body like a bear. Its belly and limbs are black with white markings on the side of the head and above its eyes. Red Pandas are very skilled at navigating their way around trees and use their long bushy tails to cover themselves.
