If you or a loved one smoke, consider taking part in the 37th annual Great American Smokeout - Thursday, November 15th.

Smokers are encouraged to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance to quit smoking just for the day  Quitting smoking even for one day is an important step towards a healthier life and reducing your risk of cancer and heart disease.

The event has it's origins in Minnesota - when Lynn R. Smith promoted a similar day in a Monticello newspaper in 1974.  In the years since, the Great American Smokeout has gone national in scale, encouraging millions of people to give up their smoking habits.
