Target Recalling Holiday Decoration For Laceration Hazard
If you haven't taken your holiday decorations down just yet, you may want to take extra caution, especially if you have a specific decoration from Target.
While you probably already took down your decorations and tree already, this is still really scary. Minnesota-based Target has issued a recall of one of their popular holiday decorations that you have probably seen in stores at some point.
This is not a great start to the year for the retail giant, especially after the great year they had in 2021. They most recently made headlines back in November when they announced they were making a big and permanent change they first implemented during 2020.
The change? Closing for Thanksgiving day instead of opening for early Black Friday shopping! They did so in 2020 due to the pandemic and said they received such positive feedback, they were going to do the same in 2021. A few days before Thanksgiving last year, they announced the change was permanent.
Now, there is another holiday-related item making headlines for the company but this one isn't so merry. Target is recalling their "letters to Santa" mailbox decoration after receiving reports of people getting injured from the object.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says the mail slot on the mailbox is sharp, which poses a "laceration hazard" for those that bought it. If you have the item, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says you should stop using it immediately.
About 174,300 mailboxes were sold and are impacted by the recall. If you have the item, you are eligible for a refund. The price will be refunded in full in the form of a Target card. To get your refund, you can return the item to any Target store or contact Target customer service to get a return label to send it back via mail.
The mailboxes had to have been purchased between October of 2021 through November of 2021. The official recall date was December 10th of 2021.
It should also be noted that this includes the purchase of a single mailbox decoration or the two-pack option. The prices range from $5 bucks to $10 bucks and you will be refunded based on which pack you purchased.
So far, Target has received nine reports of "sharp mail slot openings" and seven reports of lacerations. Three of those reports required medical attention. Be cautious if you have this decoration and make sure you return it should you have it. That way you can be safe and get your money back.
You can reach out to Target for more information on your return and recall by calling 800-440-0680, going to Target's Facebook page or by going to their product recall page.
