memories

As I was thinking about changes I need to make for 2017, I took time to reflect on what has gotten Northlanders talking and expressing their opinions.  Our celebrations and things we endured together that made us stronger as a community...

As we were starting to go through Christmas decoration to see what we might need to replace this year my family started talking about our memories of the holiday.  Since I grew up in the Northland and I know you may have a lot of the same memories that I do, I thought I'd share...

I grew up in Wrenshall so I lived the country side of trick or treating.  There has always been definite differences between country and city trick or treating but now even more so, due to the world we live in and safety.  It's sad that some sinister people actually put a legitimate scare into the art of trick or treating.

Luckily my friends had rec rooms, rumpus rooms and basements filled with fun games, because all I had was a phonograph.  That was it, a phonograph.  Through my friends I learned how to play pool, air hockey and foosball.  We recently acquired a foosball table through a Family Pathways Thrift Store in St. Croix Falls, WI and childhood memories came flooding back.

Long before "digital photography" we didn't have the choice of having a family member or friend take our grad photos.  You went to a professional photographer and your choices of backgrounds were limited.  I think most of us had an indoor head shot, a picture leaning into a tree with a leg up, a picture laying on the ground peeking around a tree and if you got your picture taken at Dean'

Ok, those are my 4 suggestions, what would you like to see in that space?

I'm sure you can come up with lots of things to add to my list. Or maybe crazy things your mom told you to be careful of that were myths, like waiting 30 minutes after you eat to go swimming.

Do you remember these? I was in Rhineland, WI with my sister at The Vintage Thrift Shop and ran across so many things that took us back to our childhood. Salt and Pepper shakers, knick knacks and games that were at our mother’s house. We laughed when we she picked up this item and said, “remember THIS!"

Last week I attended a meeting with my digital staff and our Digital Content Manager Stephanie who came in from New York. After going over figures and stats we took a quick break in the meeting and just kicked back for a few moments. In conversation with Stephanie, she happened to mention how much she enjoyed books as opposed to e-books.
