Superior + Douglas County Prep Seven Road Projects
If it all comes together, local road crews will be busy in Superior and Douglas County over the next four years with projects made possible with federal funding. The Superior Transportation Improvement Program is considering seven different road projects and two additional railroad projects to be worked on between 2021 and 2014.
While the final plans are still being put together, local officials have made public what roads and highways would stand to be included as part of the scope of the work. According to news sources, the scheduling is required as part of the process of applying for federal funding with the United States Department of Transportation.
So what roads and railroad crossings would be worked on over the next few years? Some of the work is located in the City of Superior proper while some of it will occur outside of city limits in Douglas County. Here's a breakdown:
- Railroad intersection work at East 5th Street in Superior: Installation of gates and signals
- Railroad intersection work at County Highway C in Douglas County: Installation of gates and signals
- Hammond Avenue reconstruction in Superior: From North 21st Street to North 28th Street
- U.S. Highway 53 resurfacing: From 2nd Avenue East to the Blatnik Bridge and Hughitt Avenue. This work would be sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation
