Project Joy is an event that was started by an man I had the honor to work with on the Thanksgiving Day Buffet Committee, Patrick Plys.  Even while battling brain cancer his concern was for others.  Especially, children who went hungry without access to food.  Patrick sadly lost his battle, but not before he told his wife, "he chose Joy".  Thus, Project Joy was developed and has continued to be fueled by the passion of Patrick's friends, family and a generously supportive community.

This is the 5th annual Project Joy event and the money raised at this enjoyable evening helps to fund a very important program of the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, the backpack program.  Each week, nearly 900 bags of food are provided to children in need throughout NE MN and NW WI.  They are given a backpack of pre-packed nutritious food to take home from school over the weekend.  If you aren't around it and don't see it, it's hard to believe this happens in our community.  Based on my experience working closely in the local schools and as a coach, it is quite common.

I have had SUCH an enjoyable time at the past Project Joy events, I hope that you will consider spending this Friday evening there with me,  Mark your calendar for November 4 from 5-9 pm at the Duluth Curling Club, 327 Harbor Drive in Duluth.  There is always an interesting and very unique silent auction, superb appetizers, desserts, a coffee bar, cash bar and live entertainment.  Cost is just $20 for adults, $10 for children 6-12 and children under 5 are free.  You can get your tickets at the door or online at northernlakesfoodbank.org.
