The first race in the KP challenge is a different race from most. It's very green and themed, with festivities after the race.

Registration for all the 2019 Young Athletes Foundation races opened January 1  with a chance to join the 4th Annual KP Challenge, which includes the Saint Fennessy 4K, Fitger’s 5K, Park Point 5-Miler.

The KP Challenge, named after the late Kevin Peterson, who lost his battle to Pancreatic Cancer in 2013.  Kevin was a member of the marathon’s founding organization, the North Shore Striders.

The KP challenge keeps participants on a regular running schedule that supports the successful completion of longer distances. Registering for the KP Challenge locks in a low price for all three races with the convenience of one purchase. Participants will receive an exclusive finisher’s jacket upon completion of the final race in the series.

Net proceeds from all races benefit the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma’s Marathon program focused on the promotion and development of healthy and active lifestyles for youth throughout the region. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has contributed more than $1,000,000 to area nonprofit youth athletic organizations.
