There is pretty much a day of the year for about anything you can think of.  Some of them are incredibly specific too, for example, there isn't just National Nut Day, but it goes a step farther with National Chocolate Covered Nut Day.

Besides days for less important things like nuts, there are many dedicated to various diseases and allergies to help raise awareness too.  Today I learned about one that is new to me, and isn't even all that old, National Unfriend Day.

On November 17th, 2010, Jimmy Kimmel created a day dedicated to getting rid of people you probably don't need on your social media pages.  You know the kind of people I'm referring too, the ones who essentially never contribute anything good to your newsfeeds.  It might be people you went to high school with that you haven't actually spoken to online or in person for twenty years.  Or it might be a friend of a friend who sent you a request that you felt obligated to accept.  Sometimes it's even family members who might be toxic.  While the family connection on social media is a tough one to break, if all they throw is negativity and judgement, it might be good to cut that drama loose.  Call it self-care, or just eliminating bloat from what you see when you log on.

I think of how many times I scroll past people's posts because I see the name and instantly know I have zero care about what they decided was important to share with the world.

On the flip side of this, I have many people I keep on my list that I have zero interest in how they are doing, but I can't look away from their train wrecks of constant drama.  Maybe that makes me a bad person, but I consider it free entertainment.  The key with that is not getting sucked in to commenting, liking, or engaging in their opinions or whatever mindless dribble they are spouting.

Yeah, you don't need a national day to go through your lists and clean them up, but on November 17th, if you have some free time, National Unfriend Day is something to consider.
