It has become tradition for many local retailers to offer special "Small Business Saturday" deals, encouraging the public to shop local and support small businesses during the holiday shopping season. Duluth's Greater Downtown Council and several member businesses are no exception to this event, initially having plans to once again hold events and sales this year. Unfortunately, brutal weather for a portion of the day put a damper on this for the traditional day after Black Friday event.

To offer retailers and shoppers an opportunity to make good on this event, the GDC will extend the small business shopping holiday to next Saturday, December 7. As the GDC said in a Facebook post, regardless of whether retailers were open today, they plan to extend the shopping holiday to next weekend as a "bonus" Small Business Saturday, and invite downtown retailers to jump on board if they'd like to do so.
