Pretty much everyone has someone they know who served in the military in some capacity.  It might be a grandparent, parent, sibling, cousin, friend, or it might even be you.  The veteran most special to me is my wife.  She served in the United States Air Force making sure air traffic was controlled.

Plenty of businesses offer free or discounted meals to veterans on Veterans Day, which is great.  A number of places also have ceremonies or programs to honor those who served.  One such place is The University of Wisconsin-Superior, and their program will actually take place on Friday, November 12th.

The program is free to attend and open to the public, taking place at the Shippar Family Atrium of The Yellowjacket Union.  There will be a presentation of colors, of course the national anthem, and various speakers.  In addition, Henry Blomberg Excellence in Service Awards will be presented.

The annual UWS Veterans Day Program will take place from 11:00AM-1:30PM and the address is 1605 Catlin Avenue in Superior, WI.  It's a good opportunity to show your support of those who served our country and if you have younger kids, expose them to what it means to serve in the capacity that so many have.  You can find out more about other Veterans Day events and thank you freebies available to veterans the whole month of November HERE.
