Lots of people wear a doo rag, some daily, some from time to time, and we all wear them for different reasons. I often wondered if it was just a fad or it served a direct purpose, so I decided to do some research.

Some may think the doo rag is a recent discovery, but they date back to the 1930's. Women were first to wear a doo rag, most often to keep the rollers in their hair while they slept. During the war, women were employed at factories, and found they needed something to keep their hair from getting into the machinery.

Today men laboring outdoors under the sun often wear doo rag. Many motorcycle riders wear one, as do singers and dancers. Today there are many styles available, however the basic bandana is the most widely used.
