Besides the normal delay of traffic because people are going to relatives houses and hitting the road, there will be some delays on the roads. Downtown Duluth will be making room for the Gobble Gallop Races. Here's the official delays from the Duluth Police.

November 27th, (Thanksgiving Day) the Gobble Gallop Races will be held in Downtown Duluth. The first of three races starts at 09:00 am. All races start and finish on London Road near 13th Avenue East. The race routes run West on London Road, onto Superior Street, to 5th Avenue West and back.

Because of the road space needed for the race, here are the detours and closures:

  • London Road will be closed at 07:45 from 10th Ave E to 14th Ave E at 07:45 for Race setup and for the Kid's Race. Superior Street will be closed at 08:45 from 5th Ave W to 10th Ave E. for the Race.
  • Superior Street east bound traffic will be detoured up to 2nd Street to continue east. West bound traffic will be sent up 10th Ave E to 1st Street to continue west.
  • Lake Avenue will be blocked off at Superior Street. Access to Canal Park, Park Point, and the DECC will be down 5th Ave W to the connector to Railroad Street, and from the freeway exits onto South Lake Ave.

Downtown traffic should return to normal by approximately 11:30 am.

Drivers are urged to use caution and plan for delays when driving in the area of this event.
