Thanks to a generous gift from the Arcelor-Mittal-Minorca mining company, Iron Range youngsters will get a big break on Red Cross Babysitter Training.  A $7,500 grant will underwrite the entire registration fee for what is being called Babysitter Boot Camp.

The Northland Chapter is working in conjunction with Iron Range school districts to schedule the training through January 13, 2013.

  • In the Eveleth-Gilbert School District, Babysitter Boot Camp will be from 3-5:15 p.m. on January 14, 15, and 16, at Franklin Elementary, 801 Jones St. in Eveleth. To register, contact Lynn Bol at (218)744-7710.
  • The Mountain Iron-Buhl School District will host a class from 2:45 to 5 p.m. on January 22, 23, and 24 at Merritt Elementary School, 5529 Emerald Avenue in Mountain Iron. Students should contact Jean Smith at (218)735-8271 to register.
  • In the Virginia School District, youngsters can attend training on Saturday, January 12, or Saturday, January 19, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Virginia High School Resource Center. For more information, contact Julie Eddy at (218) 742-3990.
  • Hibbing will hold Babysitter Boot Camp on Saturday, January 26, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, and with a second session January 29, 30, and 31 from 2:30 to 4:45 p.m. Both will be held in the library at Hibbing High School, 800 E. 21st St., Hibbing. To register, call Cathy Koland at (218)262-0418.
