A program to distribute free smoke detectors will start on January 2, 2013 - according to the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross. A generous donation by Arcelor-Mittal will provide 100 Kidde smoke detectors that are equipped with 10-year sealed lithium batteries, available on a first come-first served basis.
Thanks to a generous gift from the Arcelor-Mittal-Minorca mining company, Iron Range youngsters will get a big break on Red Cross Babysitter Training. A $7,500 grant will underwrite the entire registration fee for what is being called Babysitter Boot Camp.
The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross will present Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) to 12 different northland organizations to assure the distribution of these potential life-saving devices.
