On this day in 1964, The Animals made their American debut at New York's Paramount Theater. While they never reached the heights of their fellow countrymen the Beatles and Rolling Stones,  the Animals were nevertheless a very good if not excellent group. The primary reason they didn't go farther than they did was in no way a fault of their music or talent. If anything, it was the failure to promote. Both the Animals and their management team led by Mickie Most were to blame. Many lesser talented but heavily promoted groups enjoyed  far greater success, Hermans Hermits comes to mind. While a good group that had more success than the Animals, they had far less talent, but much better management. Here's the kicker..they were both managed by Mickie Most.
