The storm that ripped through the Northland last night brought down hundreds of trees and shattered power lines - leaving many cleaning up in it's aftermath.  It apparently also took lives in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

In a developing story, authorities are saying that the storm was responsible for at least two fatalities in the Ely end of the Boundary Waters Area - with numerous injuries also reported.

The U.S. Forest Service assisted the St. Louis County Rescue Squad in rescue efforts with their float plane - with efforts centered around the Basswood Lake area.  Officials believe that there are probably more people that have sustained injuries - but they either haven't reached out yet or rescue teams haven't encountered them yet.

We'll have more updates on this story as they become available.
