Grandma’s Marathon

I've run several Grandma's Half Marathon and I've seen them around me, they're known as "the pacer".  To be exact they are a Clif Bar Pacer, they are free to follow and to many they are somewhat of a phenomenon.  Here's why I am in awe of them.

Clean out your closet now while you support Sneakers4Funds!  It is in full swing now through August 3 and there are lots of convenient drop off locations in the Northland and on marathon weekend.

Grandma's Marathon announced they will now offer registration for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon on a first come first served basis. Due to runner input over the years the marathon decided to change the way people get into the race. This means that if you want to run the half marathon, you need to register right away.

Carrie Tollefson is part of our broadcast team for Grandma's Marathon and gives great running tips. She also hosts an online show on youtube.com called C Tolle Run. In this episode, she gives the recipe and makes Kara Goucher's Peanut Butter Bliss Truffles.

Dick Beardsley once held the Grandma's Marathon Record. It was broken a couple of years ago. He's very proud of that, and if you stop him and ask him to talk about the first few Grandma's Marathons, or his race in the Boston Marathon, he will be happy to tell the story. He is a bundle of energy and is never lacking in enthusiasm for running and sharing his experiences.

In the next few weeks I am going to try to show you all the people that make Grandma's Marthon work. We will start with Tara Sieve. She handles the Volunteers and other programs. She considers herself very luck to work with some of the volunteers for the marathon. Some, she says, have been doing this for 20 years or more.

A few years ago, the organizers of Grandma's Marathon developed a unique way to spotlight their race-vehicle sponsor and honor all of the registered runners at the same time.  This years version - a 2017 Toyota is on display at the Miller Hill Mall - near Old Navy and Barnes and Noble.  The vehicle features the names of every registered entrant in the Grandma's Marathon full marathon, the Garry Bj

I save almost everything.  Recently while cleaning I found something that just might be worth some bucks.  Why do I think that?  Because an item from McDonald's dating back from 98' just sold for thousands on ebay.  What do you think, should I try it?

My husband and I have been training to run Grandma's Half Marathon.  The weather hasn't cooperated and I'm not a treadmill kinda girl.  I haven't really been "in to it".  You have to be in the healthy mindset, so I"m grateful for the Northland Community Wellness Day and Essentia Health.  I'm sure it's all in my mind, but these Energy Bites have been a healthy God send.  They're easy

Kate Kucinski is the Public Relations Director for Grandma's Marathon, which means she handles any races that are associated with Grandma's Marathon and the Young Athletes Foundation. Kate is hard to talk to on race day because she has so much to do. So do all the volunteers for the race.

Every Year Grandma's makes the weekend even better and busier by bringing in musical acts to Rock The Big Top. Once again, we'll be reminiscing to 90's classics.
