Your Grandmother’s Gingerbread Boy Recipe From Betty Crocker
I got hold of my Mother-In-Law's Gingerbread Boy recipe. She would bake these every year for her children and in later years her grandchildren. I'd like to share her recipe with you so you can make a Gingerbread Boy just like Grandma made back in the day.
Ingredients:
Mix 1/2 cup of shortening, 1 cup of brown sugar,1 1/2 cups of dark molasses together.
Stir 1/2 cup water,7 cups of flour, and 1 tsp. salt, allspice, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon
Lastly, stir in 2 tsp. soda dissolved in 3 tbsp. cold water
Chill the dough, then roll out so it's at least 1/2" thick.
Cut out your gingerbread boys, and place on a lightly grease baking sheet
Press raisins into the dough for his eyes, nose, mouth and shoe and cuff buttons.
Set oven temperature @ 350
when ready bake your Gingerbread Boys 15 to 18 minutes.
When done, let them cool slightly before removing from the baking sheet, then use white icing for his collar, cuffs, belt and shoes.
I'll be making a batch or two myself this holiday season.
Enjoy!!
