Trains, trains, trains. Wherever you are in Superior, you have a chance of being stopped by a train. So heading off to work yesterday once again I get stopped by a lovely train. Now comes the choice do you wait for the train to pass? Or do you try to go around and use another route? But then you think it’s moving along quickly, only until it stops and goes in the opposite direction, oh good it’s moving again, nope it stopped again.

Well, this particular day I decided to stop waiting after 20 minutes at the lights as a train went back and forth maybe 50 feet. The line up behind me goes on and on, I decide to take the route around since it’s not moving I’ll take the chance that it doesn’t take off and meet me at the next passing. So lucky for me I make it around pass the other tracks get to my destination and look back on the street that I was stuck at, the train is still there.

So here is Wisconsin statute 192.292: "It shall be unlawful to stop any railroad train locomotive or car upon or across any highway or street crossing in or outside the cities or to leave the same standing upon such crossing longer 10 minutes except in the case of an accident in any railroad company that shall violate this section shall be liable to a fine of not more than $500 or any officer of such company responsible for the violation shall be liable to imprisonment of not more than 15 days."

It is very frustrating and it is against the law for a train to take over a train intersection longer than 10 minutes. This is likely to have happened to us almost daily, so how do we fix this? I don’t know. But the fact is it is against the law for them to block any roadway more than 10 minutes. But also doesn’t tell us who reported to or if it would even get taken care of.
