Wow, what a mess up, although graduates will be laughing about this for years to come, their not laughing now.

Congratulations, Class of 2012 — you’ve graduated from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of “Pubic” Affairs! Graduating students and guests at the school, part of the University of Texas in Austin, received commencement programs Saturday that read “Pubic” instead of “Public” on their covers.

Red-faced organizers didn’t notice the embarrassing typographical error until after the “pubic” pamphlets were handed out to about 500 attending the ceremony, 130 of them students receiving master’s and doctoral degrees.

“We’re mortified,” said Susan Binford, spokeswoman for the school. “Suffice it to say, we pride ourselves on a level of excellence that this fell far short of.”

As soon as school officials caught the error, they tried to collect the offending programs, but — in a world of Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr — it was too late.
