UMD and Women's Hockey Head Coach Maura Crowell have agreed to a four-year extension to keep her in Duluth until 2026.
The Lady Bulldogs caught the eye of many people at the NCAA Frozen Four this past year including graduate transfer forward and 2020 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner Elizabeth Giguere from Clarkson University. It was their work ethic and the way they played. Part of it was the name of Maura Crowell.
Crowell came to the University of Minnesota Duluth by way of U-Mass and Harvard. There were a lot of hooplas made of bringing in a hockey east coach but Maura Crowell has lived up to every reason the UMD Bulldogs originally signed her. She immediately set up shop and had lofty goals considering how successful the program once had been.
It looks like they are well on their way, according to UMD Bulldogs official website, they made a trip to the Frozen Four tournament. The team re-established the program as one of the best again. Coach Crowell feels that is something to build on. They can go farther, especially with the recruits and transfers.
Something else that Maura Crowell is proud of and that also led to her contract extension was the academics of her team. According to the UMD Bulldogs website she has 58 WCHA Scholar Student-Athletes, 84 WCHA All-Academic Student-Athletes, Two WCHA Scholar-Athletes of the Year and her 2020-21 Team GPA is 3.71.
