Sesame Street has been surprisingly bold in its choice of parody, taking on even the darkest of HBO lineups from Game of Thrones to True Blood, though True Detective might seem a step too far. Well, thanks to Jimmy Kimmel and Sesame Street’s upcoming HBO move, we finally get a taste. Sesame Street is all just one gutter, man,

Kimmel debuted his own take on Sesame Street as True Detective (the good one, don’t you worry) including Big Bird as Woody Harrelson’s Marty Hart, and who else, Oscar the Grouch as Matthew McConaughey’s Rustin Cohle. The bit only reuses the audio and Sesame Street footage, rather than one of the show’s full TV parodies, but works nonetheless.

In the meantime, the 46th season of Sesame Street will premiere two new half-hour episodes on Saturday, January 16 at 9:00 A.M., subsequently airing one new episode each Saturday. Celebrity guests at first will include Gwen Stefani, Pharrell, Nick Jonas, Sara Bareilles, Alan Cumming, Ne-Yo and more, while the series has also added a new cast member, Nina.

As Kimmel also points out, HBO episodes will still air on PBS nine months later, with a wealth of content available between HBO’s affiliates and streaming HBO GO / NOW platforms, as well as PBS viewing portals.

You can check out Kimmel’s Sesame Street True Detective parody above, while we wait for news of a third (hopefully better) season.
