Oliver Bridge Closure: October 12-16
It's time for one of the routine, annual inspections on the Oliver Bridge/Highway 105 - the roadway that connects Duluth and Superior, Minnesota and Wisconsin at the southern edge of the metro over the St. Louis River. According to information released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the annual inspection is scheduled for Monday through Friday, October 12 through October 16.
Similar to how the inspections have worked in past years, the closure will occur during the daytime hours of 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM each of the scheduled days. MNDOT assures drivers that the bridge will not close earlier than 8:30 AM each of the days - to allow bridge users the chance to get to work; similarly, all equipment will be removed from the bridge and it will be reopened to drivers by 4:30 PM each of the scheduled days.
To alert drivers who use the Oliver Bridge, a changeable message sign will be put in place by Tuesday, October 6 with the closure message. Those signs will remain in place until the inspection work is completed.
The Oliver Bridge is owned and maintained by the CN Railway, which has a set of railroad tracks that pass directly above the highway lanes on the span. Workers from CN Railway will be performing the annual inspection; the Minnesota Department of Transportation is working in conjunction with the railroad to get the word out in advance of the anticipated closures.
