Kyia Plummer had a soft opening last week with her new store called Naturalight Candles and Crafts at 517 N. Central Ave in West Duluth.  Naturalight specializes in all-natural candles. some of the scents she carries are eucalyptus mint, blackberry vanilla,  teakwood and fern just to name a few.

Plummer initially sold her candles online and saw a huge boom in business at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. She feels that for many people candles can bring a sense of calm and comfort which is essential in these trying times.

She said to The Duluth News Tribune "I'm hopeful that people will be excited to come out and smell candles, and … bring those into their homes. If they can bring a little bit of relaxation or happiness or joy, then I think I've done my job well."

Plummer has been in the candle business for the last six years selling her products at art shows across the state, but with the pandemic and all the shows being canceled she had to figure out another way to sell her candles. So, she decided to branch out and take a chance with opening an actual store.

She has faced some hurdles since her products rely on people to smell them, but she has ensured that people can smell her candles safely. She has researched and implemented a number of safety precautions. Plummer also hopes that people will be able to still splurge on candles in this tough economic time.

What sets her candles apart from others is that Naturalight candles are made of soybeans from Southern Minnesota. The oils that cause the candles' scent are made of vegetable and essential oils, not harsh chemicals when they burn. Naturalight is open 10a.m.-5p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 10a.m.-4p.m. on Saturdays. What a great option to be able to buy these locally, and these will be a great buy for Fall and the Holidays!
