The Minnesota Navy League Council had planned to commission the USS Minneapolis Saint Paul in Duluth in May of 2021, then it was put on hold.

The Minnesota Navy League Council announced in a press release that the Navy has officially approved May 21 of 2022, exactly a year from the original date.  According to a previous release, the ship commissioning was halted because of the bearings in the high-speed clutch.

According to the press release, this will be the first time a ship willl be commissioned in Minnesota, so this will be a first for the state, not to mention the city of Duluth. The commissioning will occur at 10:00 am in the Duluth port.

The Navy League is planning events during the week for the ship, the crew, and also the public, to learn more about the Navy and the history of the ship.  The Navy has named two U.S. Navy ships for Minneapolis and two for Saint Paul. To honor all the ships bearing those names, the Navy combined the names into one.

If you would like to have tickets to the event you have to request them at the Minnesota Navy League website.

Due to large crowd concerns, the Navy reserved the right to limit tickets and require proof of vaccination. The event will also be live-streamed if you can't get tickets for whatever reason and want to attend. The link is also at the Minnesota Navy League website, but you have to request tickets and let them know you will not be attending.

There are some other rules and things to follow once you ask for tickets.  Which requires a response card to be filled out once you get it. Which means applying for the tickets as soon as possible. There is no cost to attend the commissioning event.
