4th of July weekend festivities are going to be nuttier than usual, as an out of town guest and his unique vehicle will be visiting the Twin Ports area for several days around the holiday. The Planters Peanuts character Mr. Peanut and his NUTmobile will be swinging through Cloquet and Duluth, making several stops from July 4th through the 7th around the area.

The NUTmobile is a a continuation of a tradition that began in 1935. The modern NUTmobile is 11 1/2 feet tall, 26 feet long, 8 1/2 feet wide, and 13,000 pounds (which happens to be about the weight of 3 million peanuts). There have been a few versions of the NUTmobile through the years, which you can learn about here.

Pine Knot News (subscription) is reporting Mr. Peanut and his NUTmobile will start their extended weekend stay in the area in Cloquet. The famous nut and his vehicle will be in the Cloquet 4th of July parade, which starts at 11 am, and Mr. Peanut and his road trip companions will be hanging out at Veterans Park near the wiffleball field from noon to 4 p.m.

For the three days following the 4th, Mr. Peanut and his team will tour Duluth, making at least one appearance each day through the weekend. KBJR is reporting that the first stop will be at Bayfront Country Jam on Friday, July 5, spending time at the music festival from 3 pm to 9 pm. Saturday, the NUTmobile will make appearances at two different Super One locations, starting at the Burning Tree location near the mall from 10 am to 1 pm and then heading to the West Duluth Super One from 2 pm to 5 pm.

The nutty tour of the Twin Ports concludes with a stop on Sunday, July 7 at Wade Stadium for the Duluth Huskies game against the Eau Claire Express. The appearance at the stadium is from 1 pm to 5 pm, with the game between the Huskies and Express scheduled for 3:05 pm.
