Northland drivers should anticipate a variety of short-term work zones on a number of different highways in the area over the next two weeks.  Crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation have embarked on a large-scale project to refresh the markings on highways throughout District 1 - the district that serves the Northland.

Drivers can expect lane closures and orange cones to allow for the paint project.  Some traffic impacts are anticipated, with delays.  In total, MNDOT will be refreshing the markings that signify lanes - including stop bars, crosswalks, and turn arrows. The agency anticipates that the work will be wrapped up by July 30.

While the work will be wide-spread throughout District 1, workers will primarily be focusing the highways around Duluth, Hermantown, Cloquet, Carlton, Two Harbors, and Virginia.  Specific highways mentioned in the collateral information released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation include Highways 23, 33, 53, 61, and 194.  It's worth noting that some of these highways already have work zones established on them and this paint refreshing project would be in addition to those.
