LSC Announces GenCyber Camps For Grades 7-12

Middle and High School students wanting to explore career opportunities in personal computer security and cybersecurity can register.

It's a free online camp offered by Lake Superior College, and it's open to students ages 12-18. The program is sponsored by the National Security Agency so that students get more involved in cyber careers, which is a huge field that will require more people as more things go online, especially with the latest moves for the COVID-19 stay at home and work at home orders.

The introductory virtual camps will run July 27 to July 31 from 9 am to 3 pm and the Advanced GenCyber camp will run August 3 to 7 from 9 am to 3 pm.

In a press release from LSC, it says The GenCyber Camp kids will get an overview of Raspberry pi hardware, and troubleshooting, networking, programming, social and personal computer security, and cybersecurity careers.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Robot programming
• Cybersecurity and encryption techniques
• Advanced Python scripting
• Cybersafety

LSC says camp participants must have access to a computer desktop or laptop to do the programming parts because it will not work on pads.
