You would expect this from a school that is ranked in the top 25 nationally as a Military Friendly public school.  UW-Superior has coordinated a week of events leading to Veterans' Day on Friday.

To start, all week, (Nov 7-11) veterans will have full access to the Marcovich Wellness Center (MWC) to work out for free.  It's a Free Fitness Week for Veterans.  Military veterans must present a military ID and are allowed to bring a guest each time they visit.  Veterans can also participate in the open rec activities.  You can choose from using the weight room, fitness center, racquetball courts, field house, three court gymnasium, climbing wall, dance studio, pool or ping pong tables.  FUN!

On Monday and Tuesday, (Nov 7 & 8) you can participate in Red Cross' Holiday Mail for Heroes.  It will be held in the Yellowjacket Union Atrium from 11a-2p.  Community members are encouraged to attend and all will have the opportunity to write and send letters to military who are stationed abroad.  They always appreciate getting mail, but even more so during the holidays and this is a free activity for you.

Moving on to Wednesday, November 9 from noon to 1p there will be a Q & A With Veterans.  You are invited once again to the Yellowjacket Union Atrium at UW-Superior.  It seems there are more and more military veterans from all branches of service that are students.  If you have questions for them, several will be on hand to talk to about their military experiences, both home and overseas.

Thursday's activity is Green Zone Training, primarily for students, staff and faculty of UW-Superior.  On November 10, 11:30a-12:50p in the Yellowjacket Union there will be an in-person training to gain tools to enhance college experience for students veterans.  Afterwards there will be time for questions and discussion.

On Friday, November 11, actual Veterans Day, please attend the Veterans Day Ceremony with Keynote speakers Thomas and Margaret Culbert, both alumni of UW-Superior.  Margaret will speak of her work at the Pentagon.  This will begin at 11a at the Yellowjacket Union Atrium with a free luncheon at noon in Great Room A.  After lunch at 1p, they will hold a National Roll Call and read the names of service members from WI and MN that have died since 9/11.  The Roll Call will take place at the UW-Superior flagpole that is located across from Curran-McNeill Residence Halls.

Thank you to UW-Superior and all the people involved in organizing this week of recognition, information and ceremonies.
