Almost every day I get a call from some form of telemarketer or phone scam artist.  I know I'm not the only one as many others complain about it too.  It's gotten to the point where I don't even answer my phone if I don't know the number.

Many mobile devices and carriers now have some form of protection from spam callers.  For example, AT&T has their Call Protect app.  These work okay to a point, but spam callers are crafty and it's now to the point where local numbers are being used and somehow don't get weeded out with call protection apps.

Years ago I signed up to be on the National Do Not Call Registry.  For a while, it worked great and the amount of spam calls I was receiving dropped significantly.  The things got bad, to the point of me getting up to a dozen spam calls a day.  That's tapered off a bit as of late and some days I only get one or two spam calls, and sometimes very rarely I will not get any in a day.

I popped on to the National Registry last night to see if my number was still listed with them and indeed it was.  What I noticed though was they added a feature since the last time I had logged in, many years ago.

An option was added to report unwanted calls.  They specifically are looking for you to report robocalls, those ones with pre-recorded messages.  Also they include information on who can still call you even if your number is in the registry, like political organizations, charities, and some survey companies.

A google search shows many sites claiming the National Do Not Call Registry works, and maybe it does to a point.  It just seems like a lot of spammers still have my number.  If you're not on the registry, it only takes a couple of minutes to sign up if you do receive a high volume of unwanted calls.  Even if it only makes a little difference, hopefully it can help you out.
