I-35 Cable Median Barrier Work Starts June 1

Drivers who travel between the Twin Ports and Hinckley will encounter orange cones and a work zone for a couple of months.  Work crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be on site between Carlton and Hinckley to install a new cable median barrier between the north and south-bound lanes of I-35 along that stretch of roadway.

Once the work zone is established, additional impacts will be required.  Drivers should anticipate left lane closures on weekdays along both routes - north and south. Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation share that closures will be limited on northbound I-35 to Monday through Thursday and on southbound I-35 Monday through Friday.  The split is to better accommodate the heavy traffic that utilizes that route for weekends; usually the northbound traffic is heavier on a Friday, with southbound traffic impacts heavier on Sundays.

The work on the cable median barrier will start on June 1.  The Minnesota Department of Transportation expects that the construction project will last about two months - ending at the end of July.

• Watch for workers
• Be observant and cautious of slow-moving equipment
• Obey posted speed limits.  Fines for violations in a work zone are $300
• Eliminate distractions while behind the wheel
• Be patient
• Expect delays
