The FDA is warning the public about makeup from Claire's and Justice as some of the products contain Asbestos.

The stores both are geared towards tweens and teenagers and both sell a variety of products, but it's the makeup that has government regulators warning consumers about the dangers of 3 particular powdered makeup products.

According to the FDA, "samples of the following products tested positive for tremolite asbestos during FDA testing:"

  • Claire’s Eye Shadows – Batch No/Lot No: 08/17
  • Claire’s Compact Powder – Batch No/Lot No: 07/15
  • Claire’s Contour Palette – Batch No/Lot No: 04/17

The one product tested and confirmed to have Asbestos from Justice was removed from the shelves in 2017.

Asbestos is a mineral fiber that was used in construction materials and it is known to cause lung disease. The FDA says to stop using these products but it is not being recalled, according to them, "Claire’s has refused to comply with the FDA’s request, and the agency does not have the authority to mandate a recall."
