The Duluth Public Schools will observe their Fall Break on Thursday, October 16 and Friday, October 17.  What do you do with the kids?  One answer might be the events planned at the Duluth Public Library.

Here are the events planned for Thursday, October 16:

  • 3:30PM:  The Art and History of Henna Body Art - in the Main Library's Green Room.  Henna artist Kristy Johnson will share the history, cultural traditions, and science of henna in a fun relaxed atmospher packed with hands-on education and experience.  Learn how to prepare the perfect batch of pure natural henna paste, application techniques, and the importance of choosing natural henna.  This program is planned for teens in grades 6-12.  While it's free to attend, space is limited so registration is required.  Sign up on  the libary's website by clicking here, or by calling 218-730-4200, option 4.  This program is paid for in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
  • 5:30PM:  The movie Divergent will be shown in the Main Library's Green Room.  Rated PG-13.  The movie lasts for 2 hours and 20 minutes.
  • 6:00 PM:  It's Cartooning with 321 Art Studio at the West Duluth Branch Library.  Learn the basics of cartooning and then practice your skills at home.  321 Art Studio will show you step-by-step how to draw facial expressions on cartoon characters, create your own cartoon character, and start a simple comic strip.  This program is intended for kids in grades K-6.  This free program will be repeated on Monday, October 20 at 6:30 PM in the Main Library Green Room.  This program is also paid for in part by  the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

On Friday, here is the event line-up:

  • 2:00 PM:  The movie Muppets Most Wanted will be shown in the Main Library's Green Room.  It's rated PG and lasts for 1 hour and 52 minutes.
