We are heading for a Summer that could include baseball. The Duluth Huskies are looking for people to host players.

When the players arrive, they need to stay somewhere. Hosting a player helps the player have a home base, and also is rewarding, like having a foreign exchange student. They are from another part of the country and you and/or your kids can learn what life is like for that player.

The other part of hosting is it's rewarding, you are helping a player to fulfill their dream and this is one of the steps they take in order to make it to the big leagues. This year of course, like anything else, it's different because of COVID. Some precautions must be taken, like being mindful of clean spaces, masking when possible, and practicing distancing at the games.

So, what is it like being a host family? In a press release from the Huskies, Karla Mitchell says this is her third consecutive season. There is some extra groceries, you have to accept someone in and treat them like your family, and make sure they have what they need to be happy and achieve their dreams.

Karla went on to say that she did it this year and last year because the team has demonstrated a strong COVID protocol and her relationship with the team has built up her trust in the organization. The Huskies work hard to keep safety rules in place so the when the player returns home from the practice they are safe and the family is safe.

All the families have echoed that it is a rewarding job to host a family, the only hard part is sometimes the players come home late from road trips and haven't eaten, so the players have to be fed and some of the families get up to visit and some families make the food fresh for the players.

The Duluth Huskies are adding players fast and need people to host some of the players. It's kind of like the old days of baseball. If you are interested in adopting a Huskie for the summer, please contact us at (218) 786-9909 or huskies@duluthhuskies.com
