This is a sure sign of Summer, The City of Duluth has announced new hours for Aerial lift bridge canal lifting.

In an effort to improve traffic flow in and around Canal Park and Park Point, the City of Duluth, after working with the U.S. Coast Guard, are announcing new lifting hours for the Aerial Lift Bridge, effective this spring. The new bridge lifting hours will be to lift on the hour and half hour, between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, seven days a week from March 16th through December 31st. The bridge will raise on request for all vessels from 9:00 pm to 7:00 am, seven days a week.

The bridge will raise at all times for federal, state, and local government vessels, as well as the following:

  • vessels in distress
  • commercial vessels engaged in rescue or emergency salvage operations
  • towing vessels engaged in towing or port operations
  • vessels engaged in pilot duties
  • vessels seeking shelter from severe weather
  • commercial vessels 300 gross tons or greater

From January 1st through March 15th, the bridge will raise on request if at least 12-hour notice is given.

These changes are in an effort to make planning around lift bridge operations easier for residents and visitors and should improve traffic flow in and around Canal Park and Park Point.
