Douglas County Offers Well Testing Subsidy
Douglas County residents who get their drinking water from their own privately-owned well can apply for a subsidy to get its quality tested. The offer is being made by the Land Conservation Department to both landowners and renters who obtain their water from a source other than a municipal one. The program is tied to a county groundwater quality study.
Normal cost for he testing kit is $107.00; with the subsidy, Douglas County homeowners and renters can obtain the water testing kit for only $20.00 - a savings of $87.00.
The testing process will rate the quality of the water on a variety of different segments. Included as part of the test is bacteria, nitrates, and a complete metals package work up.
Participants who are interested in the subsidy and the kit must be able to pick it up in person in Solon Springs on Wednesday, November 13. After that, samples must be collected and returned on Monday, November 18 - to either the Solon Springs Community Center or the Douglas County Courthouse in Superior.
Sample kits - along with the subsidy - are only available in a limited number. They will be distributed on a first come-first served basis. To sign up and for more information, click here to visit the page on the county's website.
