Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting drivers to a lane-closure change that takes effect with the morning commute on Wednesday, June 20.  According to a release from the state agency, the northbound lane of Mesaba Avenue will close starting at 6:00 AM on June 20 to accommodate the evolution and changing nature of the reconstruction project.

Some additional notes about the project that will affect traffic in the near future:

  • Work below 3rd Street will begin at some point early on in July
  • Beginning in July, the eastbound Superior Street-Michigan Street bridge over Mesaba Ave. will be closed for repair work. While this bridge work is being done, Superior Street will be detoured

Work on Mesaba Avenue is anticipated to run into October; at this point, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has suggested a completion date of October 19, but that timeline is entirely subject to changing conditions like the weather, resources, project needs, etc.
