Why Do People On Highway 105 Drive So Slow? Driving Too Slow Can Be Just As Dangerous As Excessive Speeds
"The gas pedal is on the right!" On occasion my route takes me over the Oliver Bridge and I find myself on Wisconsin Highway 105. It's actually a nice drive and a refreshing change of pace from crossing the St. Louis River via the Blatnik or Bong Bridges.
Invariably (I mean at least 75% of the time!) I find myself stuck on the two-lane highway behind a vehicle that is doing well below the speed limit. The posted speed limit on Highway 105 is 55 MPH; usually these drivers are doing around 35-40 MPH and holding up a whole string of cars behind them.
I'm not a "speed demon". I am a firm believer in abiding by the posted speed limit. However, these drivers are causing a safety issue by their excessively-slow speeds - aren't they?
My bigger question is what is it about Highway 105 that attracts these drivers?
[Of note regarding the featured image above - two things: First, Murphy's Law says that when I needed to snap a picture, there were no vehicles ahead of me (this was obviously one of those "25% trips"). Second, I did not take this picture while I was driving; I snapped it from the passenger seat.]
