St. Louis County Historical Society announces the next event of its Veterans’ Memorial Hall program, a “History in a Pint” presentation, entitled “More than War Souvenirs: Reflections on Minnesota’s WWII Veterans and Their Japanese Swords”. This event is free and open to all.

The presenter, Dr. Thomas Buck, has been performing restoration and research work on Japanese swords for various institutions, private collectors and dealers since 1988. A member of the St. Louis County Board of Governors and a member of the faculty at the College of St. Scholastica, Dr. Buck will discuss the history, symbolism and construction of Japanese swords and will share the stories and artifacts of three captured swords, along with the US WWII veterans who brought them back to Minnesota.

The event will be held at  308 E. Superior St., in Duluth, at 6:00 p.m. on May 29, 2014.
