From his impressionistic lyrics to his ability to use his guitar effects to add color and nuance, there has always been a visual element to Neil Young‘s music. However, for his new album, ‘Americana,’ which is being released Tuesday (June 5), Young has brought in acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey to provide artwork for each of the album’s 11 songs.
We knew they were working on a pair of new albums, and now we’ve got details for the one that will reach fans first: Neil Young and Crazy Horse are slated to return on June 5 with an album entitled ‘Americana.’
Neil Young currently is streaming a 38-minute audio collage of music on his official website, although when the recordings are from, who plays on them or what they are called is not clear. The music includes a long-running instrumental jam and an alternate take on the Young and Crazy Horse classic, ‘Cortez the Killer.’
Rock legend Neil Young doesn’t have a bone to pick with the artists of today (well, he may but he didn’t sound off about it this week) but he is upset with the quality of recordings purchased through digital retailers.
