For the last couple of decades, drivers have come to recognize the Adopt-A-Highway signs that populate our roadways and recognize the good work that they showcase. Now, St. Louis County is getting ready to revamp its program.
Minnesota drivers will start to see signs alerting them to Electric Vehicle Charging Stations along I-94. Work crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation started installing the signs along the corridor that runs north of St. Cloud as part of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act that was enacted in 2016.
It's no secret that we're in the summer road construction season. And whether that project is on a highway with orange cones stretching for 20 miles or on a city street corner with single sign, the law mandates that you slow down; common sense mandates that you be observant and extra-cautious.
Construction continues on the new 1,100-foot bridge that spans the Rouchleau Pit east of Virginia as part of the Highway 53 Relocation Project. Work began in 2015 and is expected to wrap up this fall - ushering in a new route for the arterial roadways that cuts its way through the Iron Range north towards Canada.
A turn lane project on Highway 53 will begin on Monday, May 15 in Grand Lake Township. Work crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin a month-plus long project that will install turning lanes on 53 just south of Caribou Lake Road.
With two major bridges in the Twin Ports - not to mention an interstate highway and miles of highway - road maintenance is a significant concern. The crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation work diligently to inspect and repair the roadways we use each and every day.
I guess you could call it another sure sign of spring: the annual salt/sand sweeping on the Bong and Blatnik Bridges - and the "Can of Worms" interchange and Boundary Avenue to 21st Avenue East area of I-35 starts this week. Crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting drivers to be aware of the process and to use caution when approaching the work convoy.
