What’s The Latest News On The Bong Bridge Project? Here’s An Update As Of May 29

The two-year Bong Bridge project kicked off just a little under a month ago.  So what's been going on?

A quick drive to the barricades shows that the work crews have been busy removing the roadway that leads up to the bridge on the Wisconsin side.  Wisconsin Department of Transportantion also informs us that they have been removing bridge deck joints.  A subcontractor has also been performing work on the underside of the bridge.

Motorists Advised To Use Proper Detour Routes For Bong Bridge Project

The Superior Police Department has issued a call to Twin Ports drivers to follow and abide by the posted detour routes for Highway 2 during the two-year Bong Bridge project.  With most Duluth-bound vehicles now using the Blatnik Bridge until November, congestion is anticipated on city streets.  Utilizing the proper detour route allows authorities to make changes and monitor traffic situations in a more streamlined fashion.

Blatnik Bridge Construction Postponed Due To Bong Bridge Closure

A lot of people scratched their heads yesterday over the logic of scheduling bridge repair on the Blatnik Bridge only two days after the Bong Bridge's westbound lanes closed as part of a two year project.  The Blatnik Bridge was the posted detour for the vehicles that usually use the Bong Bridge.  Traffic backed up considerably and major delays happened during the late morning and midday time period.

When Does The Bong Bridge Close? Project Starts March 31 But Detour Delayed Until May [Update]

An update on the two year Bong Bridge project that starts on Monday, March 31;  The east-bound/Duluth-bound detour that was scheduled at the beginning has been delayed until May.

The project itself will still commence on March 31 - but drivers will still be able to get to Duluth on the Bong Bridge, albeit with reduced and single-lanes.
